You have recently installed
Windows 8 on your netbook. Now you are getting the following message
when you try to run Modern apps in Windows 8 very popular Metro Apps
screen: ‘This app can’t open. The screen resolution is too low for this
app to run. Change your screen resolution’.
You expect a lot when you installed
Windows 8
on your netbook but as the apps are not working you might be getting very disappointed. No you really don’t need to be disappointed. Yes it is true that these apps require a screen resolution of minimum 1024×768 and in your netbook you have 1024×600 maximum.
There are some easy workarounds that will allow you to run the apps on a netbook, although neither is entirely satisfactory.
The first is you can plug your netbook into an external display capable of at least 1024×768. Modern apps will have no problem running on this monitor as the resolution is increased.
If you want to run these Windows 8 apps on your netbook’s built-in screen, you can configure the graphics system by registry edit to run a 1024×768 desktop scaled to 1024×600. This will allow programs to run at their required 1024×768, but it will slow down your graphics performance and also have some quality loss, although the text will remain legible. You can switch back to 1024×600 when you’re not using Windows 8 apps to improve the screen readability.
You can do such chances by doing registry editing in a following way;

You can do such chances by doing registry editing in a following way;
- Open the Start menu and type regedit in the Search box.
- Double-click the regedit icon that appears in the search results.
- Click Edit; Find (Ctrl+F) in the Registry Editor.
- Type Display1_DownScalingSupported into the “Find what” field.
- Click Find Next to locate the Registry key,
- Once you get the key, double-click it to edit the value.
- Change the Value Data from 0 to 1 and click Ok.
If the Registry Editor locates more than one Display1_DownScalingSupported; you’ll need to edit all instances.
Reboot your netbook and you should find that additional display resolution options are available, including 1024×768.
Now you can select this option to run your Windows 8 apps.
